POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the overall 24 hour organization, management and leadership of clinical unit(s), programs and department. Demonstrates an advanced level of management expertise. Assists in integrating nursing with ancillary and support services. Bridges administrative planning and operational implementation of care.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops and controls operational expenditures and capital budgets for clinical areas/program.
2. Ensures and strives for excellence in the provision of quality patient care.
3. Recognizes, investigates, and solves potential and real problems that impede safe patient care.
4. Provides leadership, direction and supervision to encourage professional growth to management team, staff RNs, LVNs, CNAs and other patient care staff.
5. Establishes a system of staffing/scheduling through hiring and development of staff in order to ensure personnel are competent to provide optimum patient care.
6. Acts as a liaison and public relations representative between clinical/program area, other hospital departments.
7. Directs the integration of the Core Values into the daily operation of personnel management and patient care activities.
8. Manages material supplies and environment to ensure compliance with safety and licensing and regulatory agencies.
9. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic plans and goals for clinical services that support the overall hospital objective and mission.
10. Seeks opportunities to enrich knowledge and skills that will enhance personal and professional development.
11. Strengthens existing programs and develops new business ventures which are innovative, cost effective, revenue producing and market
STANDARDS OF CARE
1. Develops, implements and evaluates ongoing program to ensure quality patient care using appropriate hospital resources (e.g. medical directors, QI Coordinator, risk management).
2. Develops criteria for identifying general areas of potential risk in the clinical aspects of patient care and safety.
3. Implements changes to improve perceived problems in services to reduce risk and optimize delivery of care.
4. Adheres to guidelines of Nurse Practice Act and demonstrates clinical competency.
5. Researches methods to improve nursing practices on an ongoing basis.
6. Assesses administrative practices that affect patient care on an ongoing basis.
7. Develops standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice based on systematic analysis and data collection.
8. Monitors compliance with federal, regulatory, accrediting and hospital recommendations and policies for quality patient care/staff support services.
9. Refers unresolved medical practice issues to medical directors/risk management for resolution.
10. Documents Quality Improvement Process activities.
11. Develops and reviews policies and procedures for department.
12. Determines exceptions to policies and procedures within Standards of Care and driven.
Job Requirements
Education, training, experience:
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
California RN license, BLS and MSN and/or BSN preferred.
Los Angeles Fire Card within 30 days of hire.
MINIMUM ENTRY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum of ten years in acute hospital setting with some experience in pediatrics.
