The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing seeks a director of clinical education to join the founding faculty at the new innovative nursing school at UC Davis. The successful candidate will provide the vision and direction needed to develop, implement and manage a program to address the evidence-based educational training needs of today’s nurses.
One health sciences clinical professor series at the assistant, associate or full rank position is available in Sacramento, Calif. The director of clinical education has the unique opportunity to design and implement an innovative prelicensure nursing program that will embody the core values of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing.
The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is founded on five core attributes:

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing plans to enroll the first students in a clinical education program in fall 2015. The degree program will reflect the requirements of accrediting bodies and national thinking about transforming nursing education (per the recent study commissioned by the Carnegie Foundation), and embody the unique features, culture and core attributes of the school. A distinctive feature of the curricula will be to engage students in research on nursing science, health services and informatics.
Working with stakeholders from area employers, educators and community leaders, the director will create a program that best meets anticipated workforce needs as well as the goals and priorities of the School of Nursing. The director will collaborate with the School of Nursing faculty and education team to determine and coordinate the program’s administrative and operational needs, identify clinical site and facility requirements, develop student admission criteria and hire instructional faculty.
The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is the newest addition to UC Davis. One of the nation’s top public research universities, UC Davis maintains a tradition of service to the region, the nation and the world. The 30,000-student UC Davis has its main campus in the college town of Davis, in the heart of the Sacramento Valley, near the state capital and San Francisco Bay Area. The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is part of the UC Davis Health System – an integrated, academic health system encompassing UC Davis School of Medicine, the 619-bed-acute-care hospital and clinical services of UC Davis Medical Center and the 800-member physician group known as the UC Davis Medical Group- all located on the Sacramento campus near downtown. Unique distinctions of UC Davis Health System include a fully-accredited children’s hospital, a NCI-designated cancer center, a level-I trauma center and burn unit, and a comprehensive range of outpatient services. Education, training, experience:
A doctoral degree (Ph.D. preferred) in nursing science, or related field with experience in education and research. Licensed or eligible for registered nurse licensure in the state of California. Qualified candidates must demonstrate experience in design and implementation of a nursing program approved by the Board of Registered Nurses in California. In addition, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications required by the California Board of Registered Nurses: one year of experience as an administrator with demonstrated success administering a nursing program; two years of teaching experience in a nursing program; and one year of fulltime experience in direct patient care as an RN. Program experience should include significant interprofessional/interdisciplinary experience, budget involvement and program design. Candidates with significant experience in institutional approvals are particularly sought. This is a complex role that may encompass the oversight of the additional clinical education programs as the school grows. The director is appointed in the health science clinical professor series and expected to engage in teaching, clinical service, and University and public service. Creative scholarly activities are desirable.
